New Berlin Day

For more than 25 years, New Berlin was the destination for thousands who wanted to browse among antique and craft vendors on the fourth Saturday of August.  This annual event was known far and wide as Heritage Day.  August 2002 was the last Heritage Day.

Reinvented with a group sponsorship, for the fourth Saturday of August 2003, was New Berlin Day.  The New Berlin Fire Company is proud to maintain an active role in New Berlin Day, along with other community oriented civic groups and clubs.  Among the sponsors are the American Legion Post 957, Boy Scout Troop 508, Cub Scout Pack 3508, Girl Scouts, the New Berlin Lions Club, the Borough of New Berlin, the New Berlin Recreation Authority (Little League teams), Emmanuel United Church of Christ, Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church and the United Methodist Church..  This cooperative held an event, similar to that seen in past years, with additional entertainment and food booths are relocated to our Carnival Grounds, behind the Firehouse.  This displaced an area formerly used for parking, but additional parking was available on the New Berlin Elementary School property, just north of the Carnival Grounds, off Plum Street.  Bus service was provided from parking areas to the event.

Each of the contributing members of the cooperative staffed various food stands, benefiting that respective organization.  In addition, other funds raised will be used toward rehabilitation of the New Berlin Community Center, on Vine Street at High Street.  We celebrated our heritage, which included time as the seat of Union County, before the creation of Snyder County in 1865.

We learned from this first event, and changes are likely for next year.  Hopefully, we will create a better flow of pedestrian traffic, to bring the attractions closer.  We certainly hope you will visit before, but definitely reserve the fourth Saturday of  August 25, 2007 for an excursion to New Berlin.
